I am selling or buying a house in Rochester. Whom should I call to make sure I have all the assessment information on the property?

Go to our Assessment Lookup to check for assessments on the property. You should also contact the following:

City of Rochester – City Clerk’s Office (507) 328-2900  General Assessment Questions
Olmsted County - Property Records (507) 328-7636 Property taxes owed
Mark Baker, Public Works Department  (507) 328-2427

There may be other development related obligations applicable to the property if further development and/or redevelopment takes place. If you would like a formal Development Charge Status Statement prepared for the property, please contact Mark Baker  to discuss this process.

I made a payment online, but it's not showing. Why?

Payments made online will NOT show up in real-time.  Payments made online before 8 pm will be downloaded and applied the following business day.  Payments made after 8 pm will be downloaded and applied the second business day.

I mailed in a payment for an assessment in December. Why was it returned to me?

At the end of each calendar year the City is required to “certify” to Olmsted County a calculated amount of principal and interest owed by any property with unpaid city assessments that have been levied by the City Council. This amount is placed on the county property tax statement mailed to each property owner the following spring.

Payments received after the deadline time/date specified on the eproperties site are no longer payable to the City of Rochester, therefore they are returned to the payee.

How do I find the deadline date/time for payments?

Go to the Assessment Lookup site and enter the address or property identification number. On the first working day in January of every year, we post the payment deadline date/time.
